The Orange Pi 5 is an open-source SBC (Single Board Computer) which features a high performance CPU, GPU, LPDDR4 SDRAM, video outputs, multiple camera interfaces, ethernet support, M.2 PCIe slot, and the list goes on. The Orange Pi 5 has a slightly larger form factor than the Orange Pi 4 LTS, but is still very compact with the main-board measuring 100x62mm. At the heart of the device sits a Rockchip RK3588S 64-bit 8-core processor (4x Cortex A76 @ 2.4GHz and 4x Cortex A55 @ 1.8GHz), alongside a Mali-G610 graphics processor, with 16GB of LPDDR4 SDRAM to top it all off. Compatible operating systems include Orange Pi OS, Android 12, and Debian 11.

OS Tests – Ongoing

We have started doing some very basic testing with the Operating Systems provided by Orange Pi and you can find all the latest news regarding this below. All testing was done using a SanDisk Ultra 32GB micro SD card (Class 10). All SD card flashing (Excluding Android OS) was done using a Windows 10 PC with balenaEtcher 1.13.1.

Linux Operating Systems:

  • Tested Operating Systems: Orangepi5_1.0.8_ubuntu_jammy_desktop_xfce_linux5.10.110 / Orangepi5_1.0.8_ubuntu_jammy_server_linux5.10.110 / Orangepi5_1.0.8_ubuntu_focal_desktop_xfce_linux5.10.110 / Orangepi5_1.0.8_ubuntu_focal_server_linux5.10.110 / Orangepi5_1.0.8_debian_bullseye_desktop_xfce_linux5.10.110 / Orangepi5_1.0.8_debian_bullseye_server_linux5.10.110
  • OS Flash: Flashed using balenaEtcher. No issues writing OS to SD card
  • Boot: Booted into desktop UI without any issues
  • Hardware: Wired keyboard and wireless mouse detected and working without any issues
  • Network: Ethernet working with active internet connection. No additional setup required

Android Operating Systems:

  • Tested Operating Systems: OrangePi5_RK3588S_Android12_v1.0.0
  • OS Flash: Flashed using SDDiskTool_v1.72. Tool is in Chinese, but flashing instructions are quite clear in user manual. No issues writing OS to SD card
  • Boot: Booted into Android UI without any issues
  • Hardware: Wired keyboard and wireless mouse detected and working without any issues
  • Network: Ethernet working with active internet connection. No additional setup required
