The HC-SR04 (2022 version) ultrasonic distance sensor is an upgraded version of the classic HC-SR04, offering improved performance while remaining fully compatible in default GPIO mode. It measures distance using high-frequency ultrasonic waves by calculating the time between transmission and echo return. The 2022 model features a faster 50ms measurement cycle, a wider 2.8V–5.5V operating voltage, and ultra-low current consumption of around 2mA. It provides a 2cm minimum detection range and up to 4 meters typical measurement distance, with improved stability thanks to the integrated RCWL-9610 processing chip and temperature-compensated 40kHz operation. In addition to standard GPIO (Trig/Echo), it supports UART, I²C, and 1-Wire interfaces selectable via resistor configuration, making it more flexible for advanced applications. With reduced sensitivity variation, improved accuracy (±2%), and up to 1mm theoretical resolution, this module is ideal for robotics, obstacle avoidance, level measurement, and general distance sensing applications.
